What is a GFCI outlet and do I need one?

A GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) is an outlet with a test button and a reset button. It can detect if an electrical current is escaping the wiring in an appliance or power tool and taking a shortcut to the ground. If a human is in the path of the wayward current, electric shock or even electrocution can occur. GFCI outlets shut off when these ground faults occur. Electrical codes require GFCI outlets to be installed wherever water can create a hazard–like kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and outdoor locations. If this is not the case in your home or business, get us to install GFCI outlets.
